The Spirit of Yarikawa's Vengeance is one of the most compelling Mythic Tales in Ghost of Tsushima. Taking place in the Toyotama region during Act 2, this side quest immerses players in a haunting mystery involving a vengeful spirit and ancient sword techniques. Completing this quest grants access to the powerful Dance of Wrath combat ability.

Starting the Mythic Tale in Old Yarikawa

To begin this quest, travel to the Toyotama region just east of the Ruins of Old Yarikawa. You will find the musician Yamato surrounded by local peasants who are discussing a legendary curse. Speak with Yamato to listen to the tale of the vengeful spirit and unlock the initial search area on your map.

After listening to the musician's story, open your map to locate the search zone in Old Yarikawa. The primary objective throughout this quest is to track down plumes of white smoke rising above the landscape. These smoke locations serve as shrine points where aggrieved citizens leave written petitions for vengeance.

Investigating the White Smoke Locations

Head toward the first plume of white smoke located near the southwestern part of the search zone. Interacting with the shrine offering reveals a message targeting a local traitor in a nearby camp. Following these clues will lead you through a series of encounters, including investigating refugee camps and a burning Mongol outpost.

Each subsequent white smoke location moves you closer to discovering the true identity behind the mysterious entity. You will inspect several shrines, track sounds of battle, and enter an abandoned home to gather crucial evidence. These investigation steps paint a vivid picture of the anger still lingering from past conflicts in Yarikawa.

Confronting the Spirit at the Garden of the Gods

The final plume of white smoke leads directly to the Garden of the Gods, a scenic location filled with glowing fireflies and white flowers. Upon collecting the final offering at the central shrine, the alleged spirit emerges to challenge Jin Sakai to a formal duel. It quickly becomes clear that your opponent is a skilled mortal warrior seeking revenge against Clan Sakai.

During the intense battle, stay in Stone Stance to effectively parry and dodge incoming attacks. Maintain defensive sidesteps and strike whenever your opponent momentarily pauses or sheathes her blade. As the warrior's health nears depletion, a prompt will trigger allowing Jin to learn and execute the devastating Dance of Wrath technique to conclude the duel.

Rewards for Completing the Quest

Defeating the warrior resolves the haunting mystery and grants permanent mastery of the Dance of Wrath. This ultimate attack allows Jin to spend resolve to perform three consecutive unblockable strikes against surrounding enemies.

In addition to this combat skill, players receive a moderate legend increase and the Omukade's Revenge sword kit vanity item. Mastering this quest early in Act 2 provides invaluable advantages for future boss encounters throughout Tsushima.
